Interviews
I interviewed Alison Olsen and Hannah Hendrix who are members of the Alpha Chi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta. I chose to interview an older girl in the house as well as a new member to see how answers may differ or be similar to one another due to their own experiences.
1) What is your name?
Alison Olsen
2) What year are you?
Junior
3) What is Thetas symbol?
A kite.
4) How and when was Theta founded?
Theta was founded in 1870 in Indiana Asbury, which is now DePauw University. The founding ladies couldn't be apart of fraternities and decided to create one of their own.
5) How long have you lived in Theta
Second year living in.
6) How would you describe living in the house?
Get to live with my best friends.
7) Why did you choose Theta?
It felt like home to me. I really enjoyed the girls who rushed me.
8) Describe your first impression of Theta.
Theta was the very last house of rush for me. I really liked the girl who ended up rushing me.
9) Briefly describe the initiation process.
During initiation, new girls have to go through new member meetings. There are VESPERS with each pledge class to get to know each pledge class. Some girls go bowling with their big sis's.
10) How has your experience changed since your freshman year?
I have gotten a lot closer to my pledge class and have become more involved.
11) What positions are offered?
There is an exec board where Theta tries to make positions seem more businesslike. Our president is referred to as our Chief Executive Officer.
12) What positions have you held and briefly describe them.
I was apart of the Co-Foods Chair where I made food and snacks for recruitment. Now I am the Chief Education Officer for new member education as well as around the house.
13) Describe one thing that makes Theta unique.
I think it would be how we don't have a stereotype like other houses. Our CEO went to a retreat with other presidents and they went around and said stereotypes of each house. The other houses had nothing but good things to say about Theta.
14) Describe what Theta strives for.
We strive for academics, leadership, being a well rounded, balanced woman.
15) Describe what you believe to be the benefits of being apart of Greek life.
There are so many. You have connections and networking is really big and opens doors. It's also motivational to do great things in your life and easier to focus on school. Sisters are also in the same major and you always have someone to watch your back.
16) What terms would be foreign or unusual to people who are not Greek?
The ritual side and how we have weekly house meetings rather than chapter.
